The Mobile Phone Craze

Mobile phones have been a part of people’s lives. It is used as a communicating device between two people. Calling someone in Asia is possible whether you’re from Europe or North America. Contacting your distant family members anywhere around the globe is effortless with the presence of cellphones. Keeping in touch with family members, friends, or partners in another country have been a practice of most people that’s why cellphones are considered valuable to them. Mobile phones also enhance business expansion. Businessmen use cellphones to contact business partners, employees, and clients. They also use it to store contacts, schedule, and appointments. Cellphones are beneficial during national disasters and emergency situations. Victims of a collapsed building can use their cellphones to contact emergency hot lines. They could also use it as a source of light. Most people usually consider the use of mobile phones for communication purposes.

A mobile phone is not your ordinary device. It provides various benefits that will keep you entertained and connected. Advance features like multimedia, GPS or Global Positioning System, web browsing, 3G, photo storage, video, and music playback are offered in high-tech and expensive cellphones. Data transfer is also fast and convenient through infrared, Bluetooth connectivity, MMS (Multi-Media Messaging), and USB cable. People’s demand of cellphone usage has increased annually. Millions of mobile phones are being produced every year. The young and old is into the trend of having their own cellphone.

But why are people so addicted in mobile phones? Mobile phone addiction is somehow compared to addictive substances like cigarettes and alcoholic drinks. Once you engage into the device, stopping is difficult to achieve. According to reports, cellphone usage is overused leading to different social problems. The problem is evident wherever you go. Nowadays, teenagers are busy interacting with their cellphones rather than socializing with other kids in the neighborhood. Some people use mobile phones to escape with reality. They message or call strangers as their text or call mate, but with a different identity. In short, people are becoming isolated with cellphone overuse. A great number of the youth population has their own cellphone. They are dependent with cellphones and they feel the need of carrying it wherever they go. Without a cellphone, their life is incomplete They think that a text message or call shouldn’t be missed. About 20% of car accidents occur because drivers would often use cellphones while driving. Some employees and students delay work because they involve more time in using their phones to text, browse, and call. They usually pause for a few minutes while doing their tasks when a text message or call is received, then proceed with their task after replying. This activity is time consuming and it is insignificant in work.
